Day after

Zumba last night might not have been the best plan. I know they say to exercise, even if you're sore, but now I hurt. My abs and quads ache every time I move. And considering I have an allergy cough, it feels like I've done a thousand sit-ups each time I cough.

It was however a good workout, lots of hip rotations and mambo steps. I like when it's run as a dance class, not a workout. Makes it a lot more fun that way.

Also! 1 hour of Zumba = 890 calories!

First Run

It was so nice here today in southern Michigan that I decided to go running with the dog, we only made it just over a half mile, but he was wiped out. I was out of breath too, but probably could have gone a little farther. (Didn't need my inhaler though! +10 bonus points!) I should have checked the temperature before starting out though. While it was cold in the house, and a sweatshirt felt nice, I was roasting once we got going.

As someone who hasn't run since high school (so not thinking about how long that's been), I had forgotten one of the cardinal rules of working out and running. My hair will get in my way, and it's going to be soaked in sweat, therefore, get as much of it off my neck as possible. Mostly what I forgot is, that unlike high school, my hair is cut into a bob, and almost impossible to put up in a ponytail with any hope of it staying. However, thanks to the internet and some experimentation, I think I have solved that particular problem.

I was actually really surprised that I haven't forgotten proper running form since graduating. It probably didn't look pretty, and I'm sure I was red in the face, but my notoriously bad ankles didn't twinge once. Not until I got home anyway and sat down for a while. I am definitely going to feel this tomorrow. Speaking of, tomorrow is my first Zumba class! Kind of excited, even if I know it's going to be rough.
